Please recommend bands you find similar to O.A.R. and Angels and Airwaves.

Two of my favorite bands...hard to find similarly good ones. I enjoy the high-energy and upbeat mood of O.A.R.'s music, and I particularly dig the song structures. Angels and Airwaves has a big-picture, science-fiction feel to its songs that, at heart, is just good rock and roll.

Do you know of bands that are similar?

For "Big Picture Music" (I like that term!) look at Muse, Mono, Explosions In The Sky, and maybe even My Chemical Romance, but that's just because my wife likes both them and A&A.

I don't know if you feel at all partisan, but while perhaps not science-fictiony, +44's album was pretty solid. I think if you fit in the Blink 182/Angels and Airwaves Venn diagram, you might like that as well, and maybe Boxcar Racer (Delong's first side project) as well.

Tastekid is also pretty good for this sort of thing. You may want to check out Coheed & Cambria for your big-picture stuff, and Dispatch for the perky acoustic vibe.

The newest Against Me!, White Crosses, has a lot of Angels and Airwaves in it. Recommended.
