Tattoo Quiz

Tattoo filter: Who is this guy? Who is the artist? What is the image?

I've become mildly obsessed with the sleeve tattoo shown here and here. Does anyone know anything about this man, the tattoo artist, or the significance of the image? All I know is that the man's name is Brian Torrey, and that these pictures are on pages 36 and 37 of the book "Body Art: The Human Canvas - Ink and Steel" by Gary Lee Heard (Collectors Press, 2003) (ISBN 1-888054-84-0). The image is a print from the book Jane Eyre. I remember it from a copy I had as a kid. The artist, whoever it is, did a great job.

Artist is Fritz Eichenberg. It's the cover of a '43 Random House edition of J.E.
