Best way to get the flavor for 1970s Korea?

What are the best nonfiction books, novels or articles if I want to get a feel for city life in Seoul, South Korea in the 1970s or 1980s?

Bonus if it has anything to do with the business world. This is for a fictional story I’m writing. Any help very much appreciated.

I lived in Seoul for a little over a year in the early 70's. I was in the military, but lived off base, so my perspective was from that viewpoint... memail me if you have any specific questions that I might be able to help with..

I always recommend Bruce Cumings' Korea's Place in the Sun, although it doesn't have a ton on that era, it's indispensable for 20th C Korean history. Whatever you do, do not rely on Michael Breen's The Koreans.

Response by poster: Ha ha, yeah, Michael Breen. I know his deal.
