Good Man Toys?!?

Help me think of the most excellent Promotional Item to give away at my upcoming event!! More details inside!!

Help Please!!! I am going to a conference next month, and its the first time I am really exposing my business to the next level. I was considering making some promotional items with my company logo and web address on it. Any good ideas?

The target audience will pretty much be all males, variety of ages. Everyone will be 21+. What are some good attention grabbing man toys? I don't want to do the cliche stress balls and laser pointers. I want to think outside of the box.

Previous items that businesses have given away are: frisbees, lighters, tshirts, towels, stress balls etc. I want to make sure that this item will...

1. Get their attention and keep it not only for the two days of the convention but when they get home.

2. Be small enough for transportion (for me to take to the convention and for the others to take back to their home/business ) as easy as possible.

3. CHEAP!!

Thanks in advance for all the help!!

I got a combination 2 gig USB drive/laser pointer/pen that I love at a conference once. No idea how much that was though.

As a guy who goes to lots of conferences I'd rather have a good version of something than a cheap version of something. e.g. I'd rather have the best stressball than the worst flashlight ifthey cost you the same amount of money. I have a ton of promotional items that stink and are too cheap.

Things I've liked:
I have an SGI letter opener I still use after more than a decade
small usb keys
coffee mugs
t-shirts (solid color with small logo - i'll wear them to work under something)
small zipper bag w/ logo for holding usb keys, pens, etc...
pens (of good quality, I'm noticed I was using Codewarrior pen that still works!)
small tote bags for groceries (Sun have a way a great one that folds into itself - use it all the time)

Right here, on the desk in front of me, is an extremely beat-up magnetic screwdriver (philips on one end, flathead on the other), with a pen-like clip on it, from "Carolina Community Bank", wherever the hell that is. If you're looking for something with lasting power, a little screwdriver is my recommendation. My wife has a stressball cow, pig, and moose on top of her monitor right now; guys on a business trip might grab something as a 'gift' for the gal back home, too.

If you do go with something like pens, go up a couple steps in quality. At the insurance company I used to work for, we had two 'grades' of pens, a rather regular ballpoint clicker, and then a nice ballpoint which made thick, black solid lines, was molded in a matte black plastic, and was physically heavier than the clicker. One insurance agent specifically asked for the nicer ones to give out to customers, because whenever he visited a customer who had gotten the nicer pen it was always still on the desk; the clickers were never anywhere to be found. A nice pen will have more lasting power.

The only thing I ever keep and use are: 1) nice pens and 2) USB devices.

Can you share a bit about your business? Chemical company with a laser pointer makes less sense than a sand supplier with a flipflop.

It really depends what you're marketing or what your services are. You can do very, very clever things for little money but you need an idea to hook them on.

On a semi-serious note, condoms. When you mentioned males, 21+, I remembered finding one of these in a take-with bag once and it was the only thing I got that I talked about later. "That company put a custom-made condom in the gift bag!"

But if that doesn't work, I got a logo swiss-army knife about 7-8 years ago and I keep it in my drawer and still use it to this day.

Bout 5 years ago I got a small retractable tape measure with a magnet on the back..still on my fridge nice and handy anytime I need it... however, as with anaelith above, ymmv. I did get a guitar pick at a music venue too that I still have (and that is also mentioned up thread) ... might not be applicable in this case however.
