Core exercises with recovering back injury?

AbFilter: Any tried-and-true core exercises which won't aggravate a sore (recovering-from-injury) lower back?
Hurt my lower back hucking bags of concrete last fall. The soreness has faded, but I'm getting back into an active conditioning routine. Crunches and reverse crunches make my back sore, so I'm off those for a while longer. Suggestions for working the core muscles while not re-injuring my lower back?

Best answer: I have recurring sciatic problems, and have found no problem doing plank exercises. I might not do the sideways ones if I was you, but give the standard position a try and see how it feels. They are very effective at strengthening abdominal muscles, and there may be some benefit for your back too.

Best answer: Seconding planks. I found this video to be a life saver for my lower back issues.

Do you have access to a gym, or does this need to be stuff you can do at home only?

Response by poster: Ah, just the kind of things I needed to be thinking about. Thanks, y'all.
I do have gym access, BTW.
