Self-taught designer needs help

Does anyone know of any sewing/fashion workshops around chicago?

I'm a self-motivated fashion designer living in Chicago. I already make clothes, I just wanted to improve on my manufacturing skills. I just want to learn all the neat tricks to make things easier that you can only get with experience. I don't want to fork over the money to take classes at college, I don't really need a degree just to make clothes as a hobby. I was looking for more of a workshop kind of thing. Is there a database of workshops that i can search, or does anyone know of a place that teaches sewing/garment construction classes?

Vogue (Evanston & Chicago) definitely classes but they seem like they would be too beginner for you. I wonder if you could hire one of those teachers to give you one-on-one instruction? I've taken plenty of patternmaking, construction and textile classes at a Harper College, let me know if you're interested in that.

Best answer: check out the schedule at lil street art center up in ravenswood. I took some textile printing classes from them, and I know they offer garment construction as well. They usually have Saturday workshops from time to time, if you don't want to invest in a 6-10 week class. I had a lot of fun and found the quality of instruction to be worth the money.
