Air Quality in/around NYC

We are planning a move to NYC and have a toddler with asthma. I've been trying to find information on suburbs of NYC with the best air quality but not having much luck. Everything I've read so far points northward, Westchester County....Any other suggestions? Thanks.
Or else try the forums at city-data.com. They can be very helpful.

West Harlem Environmental Action Committee (WeAct) has tracked allergen and air quality information by neighborhood for Manhattan and occasionally for outlying areas. Their maps "chronicle such elements as polluting facilities and childhood asthma hospitalizations, the diesel bus pollution corellation, waterfront property ownership and existing marine waste transfer and handling facilities."
If you don't find what you want on their site give them a call, they might be able to provide additional information specific to the areas you are considering.

If you child is allergic to leaf mold, beware of Westchester. I lived there most of my life and had life-threatening bouts of asthma, due to leaf mold and pollen. Once I moved to lower Manhattan (Washington Square area), the asthma STOPPED. I only have asthma when I visit my family in Westchester or Connecticut.

Response by poster: That is interesting, glad you found some relief. Well he is only allergic to pets - dogs, cats, guinea pigs. We are just looking for air quality ratings in general. Thank you.

Are you looking to live in New York City or its suburbs in Westchester?
Regardless of where you are looking to live, speak with child allergists in the area. They can give you information on childhood asthma rates.
Perhaps the CDC has this information as well.
