I need Charlie Watts in my computer NOW!

(virtualdrumfilter) Okay, I am a audio engineer/producer. I recently acquired new client. It's a match made in heaven, he's rich and has the songs, I have the gear, ability and knowledge. But I need to finish a demo song for him by tomorrow. I need a freeware virtual drum machine....

I recorded him Friday, just him and his guitar. I need to lay down bass and drums behind what he's recorded. No click tracks were used. While his sense of timing isn't bad, obviously it's not straight enough that I can program a drum loop to lay down behind him. Well, I could, using Fruity Loops, it's not out of the question, but that would take me quite a few hours of cut-and-paste to get the timing correct.

What I am looking for is a freeware drum program that is keyboard-triggered so that I can play along with his guitar track in real time. Bonus points for "real" sounding drums. I am a musician, so I understand how to lay the beat down, I just don't have access to a drum set right now. I found a great site, but the sims are all mouse-triggered and seem to lag a little bit.

And yes, in the future, I will be using click tracks to add a session drummers' tracks later, if not just have him play live with a session drummer. This is a one-time thing, he needs a few songs demo'd to show off to his brother in Las Vegas this week... And it's a paying job, so I have to make it happen......

(FYI- the songs sound akin to early Sammy Hagar; I don't need a Virtual Dave Lombardo, just something that I can "boom-bah boom-boom-bah" with; I have a multi-track set-up, so I can devote a track to each drum sound)....

Any other suggestions are welcome, as well. I have all the gear I need, well, aside from a drum set, a drum machine, or Bobby McFerrin.

Also- no Midi.

Thanks in advance if you can help, Hivemind!

Best answer: If you have no success here, go to gearslutz.com as they know everything.

Good luck!

Native Instruments has a free "Kore" player as well as drum samples that should do what you need. You can control them using any MIDI instrument.

Oh, no MIDI. Just read keyboard and thought you mean piano keys. Well anyways you can still use the computer keyboard as midi input, e.g. with Ableton Live. If you don't have a copy, there should be a trial available.

ableton should also let you "warp" the guitar track to match a steady beat, assuming that doesn't mess with the integrity of the track.

Best answer: HammerHead is a simple TR-909-like drum computer program. HammerHead site

Google "drum replacement" and record yourself tapping on household objects. The result will be far superior to keyboard-tapping.

I just hope you tell us what you ended up doing. I'm very interested in this possibility myself.
(my suggestion, based upon no other ideas, is to nth Ableton, using the computer keyboard as midi trigger)

Drums from the video game Rock band can be plugged into computer and assigned to drumkit soundfiles.

Try Modplug Tracker. If you want more drum n bass samples, you could find them on google with *.wav or torrent sites.
