Behind the Times

What are your favorite stories / essays / etc. from the New York Times? I recently started reading the Sunday NYTimes and love a lot of the stories I find within, especially within the magazine. I feel like I have just discovered a treasure trove of interesting reading but have no idea where to start. I am not interested in any specific topic. I just like reading interesting stuff. Here are perfect examples recently found via AskMe. Help this cave dweller discover the light of the Gray Lady.

Sounds simple, but if you just browse the Sunday Magazine archives, you will surely find lots of interesting articles. It really is some of the best journalism around.

This may or may not answer your question, but I start every morning on the Most E-mailed page. It is the only way I get any semblance of actual news by real journalists that don't write for Gawker, and there's always something interesting there.

On a sidenote, is it possible to subscribe to just the Sunday magazine without getting any other part of the Times? I love the magazine...

More visual than text-based, but Maira Kalman's And the Pursuit of Happiness is consistently amazing.

I believe you can get just the Sunday paper...not sure about just the magazine.

I don't think you can get just the magazine. As for regular columns, I love the Modern Love essays in the Sunday Styles section but they can be a bit sappy or sentimental for some. Also Metropolitan Diary every Monday is fun to read if you've ever lived or spent any time in New York.
