Help me get my file extensions to view

At work when I open a folder, I can see a list of my files, however for some reason all of my file extensions have disappeared. Help me get them back!

I'm running Windows XP and viewing folders in 'details' mode. I used to open up a folder and see documents like 'document.xls, spreadsheed.xlsx' and now my view just says 'document, spreadsheet.'

This is making it difficult to figure out some of my access files. Help me get my extension names back! Thank you!

Best answer: In Explorer, go Tools -> View -> Under Advanced Settings uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.

Best answer: Go to Tools, Folder Options, click the "View" tab and uncheck the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types."

Gah. Preview is your friend. Plus my instructions are for Vista.

If these settings seem to have changed for no apparent reason, and especially if they change back for no apparent reason, you might want to check for a virus. (If you don't already have up-to-date anti-virus stuff installed.)

Oops... you're at work, so it was probably just set that way. Nevermind.
