Where do I buy (inexpensive) art in Manhattan?

Where can I buy inexpensive canvas paintings or glicee prints in Manhattan?

My wife & I have been trying to purchase a large piece of art for our apartment, but we are overwhelmed by all the options online. We are looking for something to go on an empty white wall above a couch that is about 7 feet wide. We know nothing about art and most of the places we have wandered into are out of our price range. We would like to spend less than $500. I feel kind of uncomfortable buying something like this online without having seen it in person.

Some things that we kind of like are here, here, here, or here, or maybe here... We aren't really even sure what the style is called that we are looking for, so any advice on what keywords we should be searching for would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help!

Have you checked Craigslist? I did a quick search for "abstract painting" - you can browse though to see if there are any you like.

Best answer: You're looking for triptychs (3 panels) or diptychs (2) in an abstract minimalist style...since you asked for some key descriptors to throw out when asking around or punching into a search. If you insist on buying online, have you tried ugallery? If I lived in Manhattan I would just post my own Craigslist ad to commission something along those lines, including those links as reference, and I bet at that price point there would be some art student bites at least. But check out smaller, out of the way (out of Manhattan) galleries too.
