help me figure what movie i watched

help me remember this movie i watched as a kid.

i watched this movie more than 10 years ago. sometime in the 90s. dont think it was much older. it had a boy looking for a girl and had to keep following the sun or the moon till he reaches a frozen place with an evil woman who has the girl or something on those lines. sorry for the sketchy detail but i dont remember much else. it was probably animated but not definitely.

This sounds a bit like the plot of the Snow Queen, by Hans Christian Andersen. Maybe the movie was based on that? There was this adaptation.
