Unoffical camera policy of Mellon Arena?

I have read the official camera policy of Mellon Arena for Pittsburgh Penguins games. What is the unofficial policy?

I have been to hockey games in Detroit and Columbus. Both of the arenas had camera policies that were limited in one way or another. The Joe was limited to short SLR lens, Nationwide said only point and shoot cameras. At least that there was their official policy. However in both places I saw SLRs with larger lenses and even video cameras out during warm ups. Can anyone tell me what I can expect at Mellon? I am attending two Pens games at the end of this month and I would love to bring my camera in to get some shots during warm ups. Can anyone tell me what kind of camera you can actually get in to Mellon?

What I have done at some arenas with limited lens length is to attach a short lens to the camera but then bring another, longer lens in the bag with me. I have not yet been asked or checked to see if I was carrying a bigger lens.

I've been to lots of Pens games, and seen plenty of people with point and shoots, but I can't really remember seeing any SLR's other than the professional photographers. Of course no flashes allowed - and FWIW, I have seen ushers ask people to put their cameras away, but never seen one confiscated before.

As far as security goes at Mellon, not sure about the size of your lens, or your gender.... but as a female, I have never once been patted down. They always take a brief look in my purse, but have never forced me into a security line with a female attendant and seem to have no desire to enter my personal space. If I had a coat with big enough pockets I'm sure I could have snuck in quite a bit of contraband. ;)

I'll be watching this threat with interest, though! Let's Go Pens!

Response by poster: I put my SLR over my shoulder with no lens. My wife brought the lens in her purse. We had no problems. For reference the camera was a Canon 7D and the lens was a Canon 24-70 F/2.8L.
