Poconos/Adirondacks in the Winter?

What are the best part of the Poconos and/or Adirondacks to visit during the winter? My wife and I would be first-time visitors to either region and are interested in winter hiking trails and snowmobiling - not skiing. We're looking to rent a cabin or stay at a nice resort/hotel. Would appreciate any suggestions or ideas!

Check out the Blue Mountain/Raquette Lake/Inlet/OldForge area. Great for snowmobiling, hiking, snow shoeing cross country skiing type activities. It is about an hour north west of Lake George. As for a nice resort hotel, not many of those. Lots of cabins and motels. Sagamore Hotel in Bolton Landing near Lake George is really nice. Not sure if it is open in winter. Also look in Lake Placid for nicer hotels.

Best answer: Long Lake/Raquette Lake
Inlet.
Old Forge

Inlet and Old Forge have terrific winter carnivals with fireworks and snow mobile races. I have watched dog sled races in Inlet too. Raquette Lake does this ice cutting thing to store ice to cool a local store in the summer. Used to ship the ice to NYC for their summers.
