is there a "smart" way to get my computer to shut down after my ipod is charged?

is there software or a trick to shut down my computer after an ipod finishes charging?

Recently moved to an iTouch, and the old wall charging brick (firewire adapter) won't work with it, so I've got to use my computer. I'd love some sort of tool that would auto-shut down the computer when the battery was charged. Is there such a tool, or (I'm a programmer) is there some way to interface with itunes' battery status meter to run something when the ipod is fully charged? I know there are plenty of programs that can shut down at a certain time, but I'd rather something a bit "smarter."

All iPhone wall chargers are compatible with the iPod touch, if you're interested in having a wall charger. (If you travel without a computer, it might be a good acquisition anyway.)

Best answer: You are probably better off picking up a USB AC adapter than trying to do this. You can also get the same AC adapter that comes with iPhone. The model number is A1265, and you can probably find one pretty cheap on eBay.

Mikey-San: He probably has the A1070 Firewire charger that uses a Firewire cable, which will not work with iPhone or iTouch.

Did any iPhone come with that FireWire charger? I thought all iPhones shipped with a USB charger (s'why I mentioned iPhone chargers).

If you're lucky, your PC has a BIOS setting that allows you to run your USB ports from standby power. If you're extra lucky, your PC's power supply has a grunty enough standby power line to charge your iPod.

Touches don't ship with chargers, just a USB cable.

There are tons of USB mini-B chargers out there. Almost all cellphones are going to start being charged over USB pretty soon (it's manditory in china). My cellphone actually came with one.

You can get outlets with USB built into them.

I use a firewire cable with my 1st gen iPod Touch all the time. I can't sync with it, but it charges up just fine.

Firewire charging was removed sometime after the first gen iPhone and iPod touch. Sometime in that same period, they also started requiring the appropriate voltage on the USB data pins, so not all cheap USB chargers will work with more recent iPhones and iTouches.

Simplest thing to try first is to see if you can get your computer to provide charging current to USB when it is asleep. On a desktop computer, it might be a BIOS setting, on a laptop, it might be exposed in the power configuration tools.

I didn't say the iPod touch shipped with a charger. I asked if iPhones always shipped with a USB charger, because I can't remember if they came with a FW charger at some point.

The only thing I was driving at was: buy a charger.
