Is it worth putting time or money into this CD player?

Cheap CD player hisses. Worth the trouble to diagnose or fix?
I have a stereo that I received as a thankyou gift for making a charitable donation. It is Insignia brand, which I guess is the house brand at Best Buy. When I play a CD, there's enough of a hiss to make it unpleasant to listen to.
Is there an easy fix for this, or should I just chalk it up to "you get what you pay for" and see if Goodwill wants it?

Response by poster: It's a shelf type thing with two speakers that attach by wires. But I suspect the answer is still going to be to ditch it!

Maybe it's a ground loop. Perhaps your wall socket is miswired.

Response by poster: I'll try it in an outlet in a distant room and see if that helps - thanks. Interesting idea about trying to work out an exchange with Best Buy - who knows, maybe they'll actually stand behind their product!

Anyway I doubt it's worth much, you can get an mp3 player for like $35 that will store music from hundreds of CDs now.
