I'm looking for a retail store in the Los Angeles that has cheap linux distribution CD/DVDs.

I don't live in LA any more so I can't really advise but have you looked at the usual suspects (Fry's and what not)?

Many Linux User's Groups will have linux distro's available for free or the cost of the media.

And as luck would have it, there are many Linux User Groups in the LA region.

Check out the various links for events, meetings and install fests, or contact some of the people.

My other suggestion is Linuxiso.org, which has ISO copies (disk images for the not as technical) of all the major distributions that you can download and burn to a CD yourself, just like mom used to bake!

See also linuxcd.org, which sells distros for dirt cheap.
