I really like the Californication theme song, what artists should I be listening to?
The song has a good beat as well as splitting catchy and clever in just the right amounts. Unfortunately it looks like the song was made especially for the show by a professional theme song composer. What songs, artists and albums have a similar sort of style to this particular theme song?

Every time Hank gets himself into some hijinks, they always play a clone version of Peter Bjorn "Young Folks".

Just to clarify - do you mean the theme song for the series or the hit single with the same name from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album?

Best answer: I've never seen the show. Hearing this music for the first time, my immediate association is to The Doors. I think it deliberately references a bunch of different West Coast styles, though -- there's a bit of the Eagles in there too, along Journey of the Sorcerer lines. Probably some Bob Seger as well, and late Tom Petty. Not to mention Guns n Roses.
You might like Step On by Happy Mondays.
This may a little far afield, but I also twigged on a memory of the theme from Boomtown.
The first three seconds, by the way, reminds me of something specific but I can't put my finger on it -- Pixies-ish, perhaps? -- but if you like that the percussion on the American Beauty soundtrack will probably interest you.

If the latter, I'd recommend checking out the rest of their discography; the tend to vary wildly, but there are songs I like on every album. Stadium Arcadium is a good starter, the tracks Snow ((Hey Oh)) and Wet Sand especially.
