Does anyone know of a good florist in Washington, DC that will deliver on Sunday?

My girlfriend has been away and gets back on Sunday evening. I won't be able to see her then, but I'd like to have flowers waiting for her (getting them into her apartment has been taken care of). Delivery would be made around Adams Morgan, and I'd love to be able to go to the florist and write the card myself (for my convenience, a florist downtown or Metro-accessible would be even better).

Related questions: 1-800-Flowers will do this, but I'm forced into the computer-printed note. Does anyone have any experience with using 1-800-Flowers in DC? Do they work with a decent florist?

I work for a florist, so I just keyed in the pertinent info and these are the three most recommended shops in DC listed that are, according to our most recent software update, open on Sundays. I'd call just to confirm though.

I'm a happy customer of the Greenworks location near the Eastern Market metro.

Ooooh, Caruso is great. I've used them before and their arrangements are always lovely and fresh and very colorful.

I've used Allan Woods a number of times. Expensive, but good. P: 202.332.3334

1-800-flowers is....don't use them. They are just order gatherers. I'm sure some decent florists take orders from them (we do, along with teleflora and ftd) but why bother going thru them when you can go direct and save money in the process?

In fact let me stress you are almost always better off going direct thru a florist even if you want an arrangement one of these companies advertises.

If for some reason you can't find a Sunday florist, ask for an arrangement with longlasting flowers(for example, red roses instead of other colors of rose) and have it snuck in on Saturday afternoon. Assuming she doesn't have the heat turned way up in her place, the flowers should be just fine overnight. Just don't park them where they'd get direct sunlight.
