Outlook 2003 user here-- is there a way to open .doc attachments in print layout, instead of (what I consider useless) reading layout?

Best answer: It's a setting in Word, not in Outlook.

In MS Word, use Tools > Options > General, and uncheck "Allow starting in Reading layout".

Anyone know where this option is in Word 2007?

Yes. This function does not exist in *exactly* the same way. There is a similar mode called, "Draft view". I believe it is the same thing, so...

...again in Word, not in Outlook:

- Click the round Office icon (the top left), then select "Word Options" at the bottom right of the menu.
- In the Word Options dialog, select "Advanced" from the left hand menu, and then in the "Advanced options for working with Word" dialog on the right hand side, scroll down to the section headed "General".
- You should see an option called "Allow opening a document in Draft view". Uncheck it.
