What should I do for New Years? [+]

I live in Milwaukee, WI but could probably drive anywhere, or if it was really worth it (and cheap) fly. What's the best way to celebrate the New Year?

The best New Year I've ever had was with a group of friends in a cabin in rural Wisconsin. Goofing around in the snow while drinking champagne can not be beat, and that night made for some top-notch sledding. You could probably find a cabin for rent without too much trouble.

Fly to Chicago. Once there, you could:

1) try getting scalped tickets to the final Guided By Voices performance
2) watch the Effigies reunion at Exit
3) catch RJD2 at the Abbey Pub

Gawd, I hate New Year's Eve. My least favorite day of the year. Best one I ever spent was when a friend and I watched about five Marx Brothers movies in a row. Neither of us was interested in drinking or "partying."

This is not especially useful, I know, but I just wanted to chime in to say that, sometimes, NOT going out to a party or a concert or whatever can be pretty fun, too.

I'm in Madison. You wanna watch Marx Bros. movies on NYE, email me. Seriously.

Heh. I'd love to watch Marx Brothrs movies on New Year's Eve, personally, but Madison is a bit far :) I'll probably be at a friend's place in Ann Arbor.

Most of my New Year's Eve experiences have been small parties at friends' houses, with lots of drinking and some movies etc. And Munchkin.

It was a sincere invitation. I have no plans for NYE (except for a general avoidance of celebration), and the Marx Bros. make better company than most partygoers, in my opinion. Even if Harpo usually makes a mess.

dagnyscott, you're invited, too!
