Backingpacking on the east coast this fall?

Looking for an east coast backpacking trip this fall.

I'm hoping to find a 7-10 day backpacking trip along the lines of those offered by Sierra Club Outings on the east coast this Sept. or Oct. So far I've struck out - does anyone have suggestions for smaller / local groups organizing these kind of trips that I might have overlooked?

Depending on the area of interest, you could try the finding partners at Appalachian Mountain Club or the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club.

I searched at AMC and didn't see anything pre-planned of the desired duration in your time period (I did see some weekend trips). One issue is that so late in the year, you may run into snow in the mountains, so take a lesson from these guys and be prepared.

Two smaller groups you might want to try are the Manchester Y-Alpine Club and the Seacoast Day Hikers. Both do a lot of great trips in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and there trips are free. Even though the Seacoast club is called "Day Hikers", they do there share of multi-day trips. Feel free to MeFi mail me if you have any other questions about hiking/backpacking in the Northeast.
