Prior to a few short camping breaks this summer I'm looking to purchase a camping portaloo - more for my wife's benefit you understand! Any advice on models/makes etc and how much chemical stock I need. Also how user friendly are they?, if you know what I mean...

I don't camp, myself, but here's something I read about right here on the blue: the Shit Box.

We have one similar to this Thetford 465 (I think ours is an older model and we're quite pleased with it. It's very easy to use, very little odor if you're quick to open and close the reservoir when flushing, and emptying is relatively painless. It's battery operated and uses water and special blue stuff (like airplane toilets) to assist flushing making heavy to pack in, so it might be better for RV camping than if you're hiking to your destination.
