How do I use an iPod as an information display?

I have a 1st gen iPod Nano that I don't use. I want to use it to act as an information display like an external LCD display on a mac. Can I do it?

Well, first of all you would have to install a custom OS on your iPod to get that to work.
The only compatibility list I found for iPodLinux (here) states that the 1st gen iPod Nano is compatible, albeit without Firewire or USB support due to lack of drivers.

So first you would have to write (or convince someone else to write) a Nano USB driver for iPodLinux, and then write or get someone to write an app for iPodLinux that your Mac can talk to via USB, as well as an app for your Mac which can talk to this custom iPodLinux app. Your best bet would probably using VNC as a protocol.

So basically, if you're not prepared to do some serious programming, forget it.
