Replacing my dead MBP's display.

Dead Macbook Pro display. Apple resellers charging $1,000. Any recommendations on somewhere else to purchase from?

My Macbook Pro display died on me and I don't have it under warranty. I'm in Trinidad and the local Apple place is charging me close to USD$1,000 to replace it.

I read a couple forums and people have recommended iResQ (who charge $379 + shipping) and dttservice ($450 + shipping).

Does anyone have any previous experience with either of these 2 or can recommend anyone else?

I had good luck with iRepair.ca for an iPod. They charge about half what you were quoted. My service was a bit longer than 24 hours promised is my only and minor complaint.

Reviews for iResQ:

MacNN (Positive review of replacing a MBP's broken display)

An O'Reilly Blog (about iPods; mostly positive regarding iResQ, but one very negative one)

A Personal Blog (Very negative review. A comment suggests that the founder of iResQ sold the company a few years ago and started techrestore, which offers comparable services and prices)

Haven't used them myself, but I've heard good things about Powerbook Medic on other forums.

I've used DT&T several times (for different machines!) and have had good experiences with them.

IResQ did a good job replacing the cracked screen on my Macbook Pro. I thought the prices were reasonable. I didn't care about turn around times.

What model of mbp, where do you live? I have an extra one.

Doh, I see you are in Trinidad, nevermind. I have had good luck with parts from Powerbook Medic myself.

The problem is what you mean by "dead display". If you get in the right light and tip the display at just the right angle, can you see that there is something on the display? If so, your display backlight is out and probably because of a bad inverter board. But could be the ribbon cable that runs between the inverter board and the display.
