Good biographies or autobiographies about First Ladies?
I recently finished "American Wife" by Curtis Sittenfeld, and loved it. It's a novel generally based on the life of Laura Bush. I'm going on vacation, can anyone recommend engaging books about First Ladies? Era unimportant. Thanks!

Best answer: This is not exactly what you are looking for - but it is (kind of) close. It is a history book, but also a great read - very compelling and fully of amazing people.

I have met Curtis Sittenfeld, and she warns (for good reason) against taking her book as a "life account" of Laura Bush. The book is organized around four events that did happen to Laura Bush, but the description of them, and everything else in the book is completely fabricated. It is primarily a work of fiction...
