Is there an application that will allow you to record itunes radio stations? If not please help me find a simple to use preferably free app that will allow me to either record from the web page or from another app winmedia winamp etc. If there is a firefox plugin or grease monkey script that would be great also. Please only post apps you used or are using now.

Ive tried probably 15 apps tonight to record an internet radio station. They either were apps that just record whats playing through the sound card and those apps recorded at a very low volume level no matter how high I set the audio in sounds/audio devices. Some wouldnt connect to the station at all, and the rest were all in one recorders ie streaming video, audio etc. thanks for any help

Response by poster: also any links to web pages that do a good walk through, or list of apps would be greatly appreciated.

Windows? Mac?

For Mac, Audio Hijack Pro does this quite well.

For a simple streaming mp3 (Shoutcast style) station, I just use 'wget' from the command line. On the Mac you can get it through MacPorts, or through cygwin on Windows, or on Linux just install it.

Essentially all you have to do is 'wget URL' and it will start saving the stream. If you have a .m3u or .pls file, look inside it for the 'real' URL.

Freecorder will record sound from your browser. Unfortunately it insists on installing itself as a toolbar, but it works well and has caused me no trouble.

I use mplayer from the command line, with its -dumpstream option. Works well.

As if it even needs another vote, I have to give one more for Audio Hijack Pro. I've been using it for years. Just remember, it records everything it's set to record. For example: if you use it to record Safari, it'll record all sounds in all windows of Safari. So... if I'm going to record internet audio, I use Firefox for that.

Audio Hijack is superb.

I'm late to the party here, but Audacity has always been great for me in these situations.

If you use WinAmp i've found Stream Ripper to do a complete job of recording songs as seperate titles. Also works on Mac. Simple and free.
