Where in New York City can you get free/cheap cinder blocks? Extra points awarded if the answer is near Ditmas Park Brooklyn!

I am planning on taking advantage of the MeFites' suggestions as per this thread. but I have no idea where to get free cinder blocks. Getting 6 or more would be ideal.

Best answer: Is there a Home Depot near you? Cinder blocks are only $1-$2 each there.

I should think that for that purpose you could use many things besides blocks unless you use your bed as a trampoline. How about large sealed industrial-sized coffee cans filled with sand? The sand wouldn't just be for weight, it would increase the load-bearing capability of the can, sort of like a sandbag.

Though I'm not a NYC denizen so I suppose finding clean sand could be just as hard as finding cinder blocks.

Yeah, I saw cinder blocks for 83 cents a piece at Home Depot. Don't know how much effort you'd be willing to put in to save, but it sounds like your easiest play might be just doin' the Depot.

Bed's could also be raised using with the milk-crate method too. You might be able to find those types of crates cheaply.

You might not be checking this post anymore, but just in case...
