Who sings the soul/r&b song that goes something like "They've gone on".

The singer longingly asks, "Where are my friends? Where have they gone?" Then, among the names of great musical talents he mentions, he says, "James Brown...he's gone on."

I heard it on the radio today and can't find it anywhere. Please help!

I found this, but, there's no mention of James Brown.

Is it this one?

If you had even one other name of one of the 'great musical talents' mentioned, this would probably be very easy.

Ah well. I'll keep trying...

Response by poster: OK! One other name: Janis Joplin, Barry White

Wow, this is a tough one. I love a challenge, but I'm coming up blank. I will report back, however.

Response by poster: Your help is greatly appreciated none-the-less. I came up with nothing after some exhaustive, obsessive Google searches. Oh well. I shall never hear it again, but for in my head.
