Where to study acting/theatre in London?

Where in London could a US citizen approaching retirement age study acting?

No interest in an academic degree, but a strong desire to persue a life-long ambition to act and be involved in theatre. Some previous study and experience in college.

I do not live in London, but I would highly recommend calling around to the smaller theatre companies around town and see if you can volunteer as an usher/ticket taker. That is a good way to get involved, and see some free theatre shows too. Those same people might know of some improv classes you can join, and other similar workshops.

If you can get your hands on a paper copy of The Stage, you will find lots of ads/info about London theatre schools.

The Stage also has a page about getting into drama school that has a lot of links to websites about different drama schools. The National Council for Drama Training, linked on that page, might be particularly helpful.

For starters I would look at the City Lit, an adult education inistitute in the center of London, they have a drama, dance and speech department with a wide range of courses. You might also want ot look at the University of the Third Age which is a "self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment" rather than a conventional university ("There is no accreditation or validation and there are no assessments or qualifications to be gained.").
