Where can I buy a large amount of fresh, whole pomegranates?

This may be impossible out of season, but I'm looking for around 30 pomegranate's in the Washington, D.C. area.

I know that Dupont Circle has a farmer's market every Sunday. Have you tried that?
It's usually in season mid-August to around mid-December so it might be a tad bit early.
Otherwise, try Wholefoods or contact Melissa's at Amazon

Are there any ethnic neighborhoods near you with little fruit/vegetable stores instead of just big supermarkets? I know Russian neighborhoods and China towns always have pomegranates (and other weird fruit), and a lot cheaper than supermarkets too!

I don't know much about DC, but I agree w/ Kate about ethnic markets -- in particular, Persian/Middle Eastern markets tend to have lots of pomegranates at reasonable prices.

Best answer: World-wide, pomegranates are only out of season from June through August. The rest of the year they're in season somewhere. If you have a Whole Foods near you or some other importer, they'll have them. I saw some today at a Whole Foods in Toronto.

Ask your local grocery store to place a special order? Most local retail produce all comes out of the Jessup wholesale produce market. Any retailer that buys through there should be able to pick you up the desired amount.
