Movie/Food Pairings

Some people enjoy pairing wines and food. My friends and I are looking for rentable movies that would go well with thematically matched food (or vice versa).

My wife, myself and a couple of friends of ours have started a "movie & food theme night." What do I mean? Well, for our first venture, we watched The Good, the Bad & the Ugly and ate steaks and pasta - spaghetti Western, of course! I think we're going to do Three Kings & Middle Eastern food for our next go-round.

We're not looking for any kind of perfect historical or cultural accuracy - just fun movies to pair with fun cuisines or food ideas. The cleverer, the better! I think we're going to pass on Apollo 13 and astronaut food from the Smithsonian, though....

Waitress and pie. (Would be an awesome, if oddly-matched, double feature this Saturday b/w Pi.)

When Harry Met Sally with a big, fancy salad, that everyone gets to meticulously prepare to their precise specifications, or that each person brings an ingredient for, on the side of course. (I'll have what she's having!)

Hmm, listing a few movies on my shelf...

Sin City - boilermakers and big bleeding blue-rare steaks, followed by cheap cigarettes.

Chicago - totally old-school cocktails

Kill Bill - sushi and tequila

Pulp Fiction - burgers and milkshakes (or Sprite)

Pan's Labyrinth - a feast of epic proportions. Creepy eye-hand guy optional.

The Big Night and Italian
Raiders of the Lost Ark and Bratwurst (germans, c'mon you got that, right?)
Juno and Cheeseburgers (or go the other way and do Alaskan King Crab)
Milk and....well...Milk? Or Soup in SF Sourdough bread bowls
Master and Commander...in the books, the Captain likes toasted cheese sandwiches, but there's actually a whole cookbook full of period recipies with stuff like the Galapagos desert.
Oceans 11 and 13, cocktails (skip 12, please)

Romancing The Stone and olives and tequila.

Pink Flamingos and dog shit. Or pudding. Up to you.

The Matrix and porridge.

Heat and pie. You want some of my pie?

Dirty Deeds and pizza, but with mushy peas on it.

Empire Of The Sun and weevils.

Pulp Fiction and Douglas Sirk steak.

Monty Python's Meaning Of Life and a sort of chowder or soup-looking thing.

American Psycho and really really small portions on huge plates, and something with cotton in it. Mmm, cotton.

Sexy Beast and calamari.

Ghost Town and stenchy ethnic food that stings the eyes.

Groundhog Day and desserts, hundreds and hundreds of desserts.

Taxi Driver and cornflakes with bourbon.

National Lampoon's Vacation and moist sandwiches.

Silence Of The Lambs and liver, with some fava beans, and a nice chianti (*sucksucksucksucksuck*).

War Inc. and Tabasco sauce shooters.

La Grande Bouffe, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, And Her Lover, and Babette's Feast and fucking everything.

TBS did this. Not sure if they still do. Part movie/part cooking show - they show a movie and during the commercial breaks, they show you how to make a movie-themed meal...Maybe the site will give you some ideas?

Chinese goes with Eat Drink Man Woman. And it works doubly well as that film will definitely make you hungry.

A Thanksgving dinner goes with Home For The Holidays.

Gimme time and I'll think of more...

Buffalo 66 and tripe and bread, with ginger ale and chocolate donuts for dessert. Maybe don't tell them what you're serving till they've tasted it?

I just did Slumdog Millionaire with Chicken Tikka Masala/naan/spiced basmati rice.

It was awesome.

The linked recipe is the best I have ever seen or tasted as far as DIY indian food goes- and I grew up on curry. Just be aware that it is unbearably spicy if done according to the recipe, so cut things down unless you love the heat.

Withnail and I with gin, cider and the finest wines known to man.

More seriously though:

Brokeback Mountain and canned beans.
Meet Joe Black and peanut butter everything.
ET with Reeses Pieces
Lost in Translation with japanese food (sushi, etc.)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with lots of candy
Footloose and bacon?
Airplane and shirley temples to drink
Lord of the Rings and.... taters?
