Are government jobs better in Seattle or Portland (juvenile justice)

Is it better to work for the government in Seattle or Portland?

I live in Portland. Our government is wack! It seems that cuts are made every year (not just during these though times we are in right now). I'll eventually be working in the juvenile justice system and was wondering if anyone had any experience working in this system in Seattle or Portland. Oregon just kind of scares me economically and Seattle seems to be better off than we are.

I'm trying to think about my future and I'm quite sure I will end up in either Seattle or Portland. Can anyone compare the government jobs in Seattle and Portland?

Cost of living in Portland is much lower, from what I can tell.

Purely anecdotal, but my godparents live in Portland and their sons' school years were significantly truncated due to budget cuts... several years before the current crisis.

I'd be very wary of budgets drying up, even for essential services.
