Can I still use expired Epson ink cartridges?

I have a whole bunch of Epson 1400 ink cartridges that expired on 01/2009. I'm looking to sell them, but before I do, I want to make sure that they are still good and will work.

If they're still sealed then I'm pretty sure they'll work, but if you want to check and you have a "whole bunch" of them, couldn't you just open one or two and try printing with them?

Best answer: In general they'll be fine; the expiration date is the date beyond which Epson won't take responsibility if the color has shifted unexpectedly or if (in the case of pigment-based system, which the 1400 is not) the pigment has separated out and possibly clogged the nozzles. As long as you clearly state what the expiration date on the carts is, they'll still sell on eBay. The market has determined what value post-dated ink has, and it isn't $0. Just sold a bunch that expired in 2006 myself.
