Recommend a bodybuilding supplement and message board forum!

Firstly, I am trying to find a good supplement to take in addition to daily whey protein shakes. I sometimes take a caffeine pill to help energize myself for my workout, but the effects seem to have diminished. About me: I am 26, in decent shape, but am still trying to loose a small gut. I am 5'10", 175 pounds. I already look thin, only i know i have a gut so i dont want to loose weight, just bodyfat- and replace it with 5-10 pounds of lean muscle. Can anyone recommend a specific routine + supplement? I am looking for a good FREE bodybuilding forum with active members and people who are interested in helping. Anyone have some good links?

Your new routine: Starting Strength

Your new supplement: lots of real food. Lots of protein and healthy fats and veggies. I really don't think that you will find a supplement that will really do what you want. There's no substitute for working out hard and smart. Most supplements are scams. Except for creatine. ;) And that probably won't help you out much. But it's cheap, so you could sure try it out.

I like t-nation's forums, but they don't generally like people who are looking to only put on 5-10 pounds of muscle. If you go in and read all the beginner's articles before you start asking questions, you might have success. T-nation is otherwise full of interesting, if confusing and contradictory articles. They are owned by biotest, so I'm sure they could help you figure out what new supplement you could use. Good luck!

StrongLifts.com

The routine there is similar to what is presented in Starting Strength. (Starting Strength wiki). The forum users @ stronglifts seem to be helpful, however, I've never posted in the forum. Check it out though, there are a lot of technique/form questions posted with videos and advice from the site's owner and other members. I don't have much advice on supplements besides protein, which can be found at any nutrition store, but I'll recommend trueprotein.com if you want to buy online.

The stronglifts/starting strength routine will have you doing compound lifts: squats, deadlifts, rows (clean and press w/starting strength), bench presses, presses, pull-ups, and dips. These are without a doubt the best lifts to build muscle. Good luck!

It's normal for users of caffeine to have a tolerance buildup.

Crossfit. stick with the whey protein, cut most of the carbs out of your diet. you should be getting a quantity of protein (in grams) that comes close to matching your weight (in pounds).

I've done extensive research on supplements and the following boards have more info on the subject than you could read through in a lifetime:

Bodybuilding.com

MindAndMuscle.net

AnabolicMinds.com

AvantLabs.com

I don't know anything about supplements but the best forum you can find will likely be the ones at John Stone Fitness.

Seconding Crossfit. I was in similar shoes about two years ago when I started Crossfit. I struggled with the tummy fat for quite awhile, and I can honestly say that Crossfit is what whipped me into shape.

I'll second the John Stone Fitness Forums. It's the most helpful and knowledgeable fitness community I've seen. You'll find plenty of nutrition and workout information there.
