looking for help with Rapidshare, downthemall and igetter

I have been trying to to use downthemall or igetter to download files from my premium account with Rapishare. All both download managers will download is a small 12k or 8k file. I have been scouring the internet for fixes and cannot for the life of me find something that will work. Have you any personal experience here with my dilema? Please share

If you give that file a .html extension and open it in your browser, is it some sort of error message? When I've run into this problem before, it's been because the download manager wasn't sending the proper cookies or referral information. I use FlashGot with wget and the following template: wget.exe [--directory-prefix=FOLDER] [--referer=REFERER] [--post-data=POST] [--load-cookies=CFILE] [--header=Cookie:COOKIE] [--input-file=UFILE]
You could give that a try, or check out the cookie/referral options for your programs.

Response by poster: I'm sorry. I do not understand totally. I have flashgot. I will lokk at wget but what is the wget.exe?
That part is a bit beyond me.

In the Rapidshare premium account settings, there's an option to download files directly instead of going through the html page. When I had an account I had it set and it worked great with downthemall.

Ok, sorry. I assumed you were windows. Wget actually used to never be on Windows, so I linked to that so you wouldn't be confused. Ah, well you know what they say about assume...I'll explain what I was saying a little better.

When you download something from Rapishare and similar sites, they usually set a small file (cookie) in your browser to say it's ok for you to download the file. This prevents people from bypassing things like the speed restrictions and lines to download files. There are also other things implemented by these sites, such as checking the page you came from (the referrer). I'm guessing that your download programs aren't sending the cookies and/or the referrer page, so Rapidshare doesn't let you download the file, and instead (I'm assuming again...) gives out a webpage with an error to that effect.

If you use Firefox, you can use the download the flashgot add-in, and actually have it automatically send the needed files to igetter. I believe igetter is built in to the OS X version, so it should be a simple matter of installing the plug-in and telling to use igetter. Let me know if you need help with that part.

Oooh, check this feature out:
For RapidShare.com Premium users, the ability of downloading files (by any single or multiple FlashGot command) directly from wherever their links (sometimes called "codes") are posted. Just remember to enable the Direct downloads preference in your RapidShare.com Premium Zone Options page.
Just what the doctor ordered.

Have you entered your rapidshare username and password in the preferences for iGetter?

Here's what you'll need to do if you haven't yet:

The file you're downloading is probably an error page from Rapidshare because the file you want isn't there anymore, your login details are wrong or your account has expired. Put a .htm or .html on the end of the file and open it in Safari.

Response by poster: Niles,
Thanks for this and your time.
I have enabled direct downloads.
I was previously at the link you sent and did what it suggested.
When I click a rapidshare link on a third party site. I used both igetter and DTA and they seem to just download a URL.
When i try to access a link directly through the rapidshare site it kicks me back to the download manager options
All other downloads work fine.

Thanks for jumping in here.
I have tried more than a few rapidshare file and it always behaves this way.
I think it might be a an issue with confirming my account some how but eveything checks out when i go to rapidshare.com

enable 3rd party cookies and then downthemall (and flashget) will bulk-download RS links.

You may want to give JDownloader a try. It handle Rapidshare and other download sites very well.

Hmm. The only other thing I can think to try - if you haven't done this already - is to try opening up one of those 8-12k files in Safari and see if they're webpages that give some sort of indication as to what your problem is. If you right click (or hit the "Ctrl" key while you click) on the file, you can chose "Open With". It should be the second option in the menu that pops up. If Safari is in that last, click on it, but you will probably need to click on "Other ..." at the bottom. A window will open up, and you should be able to choose Safari through it. Hopefully it will open up as a regular web page, and you can report back with any information it gives!

If I may jump in...
If you open the tiny file in Safari (by changing the extension to html), It is revealed that the file is the Rapidshare download page, the one with the two buttons to select wether to download as Free or Premium user.
So... How can I get iGetter to bypass this page and get to the actual download???

Never mind, I just discovered the solution!
You have to log into Rapidshare, click Settings and then enable direct downloads.
Thereafter, all the links download perfectly in 3rd party download managers!!!
