Havana (or bust)

Mrs. Bonobo and I would like to travel to Cuba soon and were wondering if the March break is as busy there as it is in say, Florida or Mexico.

We might only have free time in March, so I would like to know what part of March would likely be busiest (ie. what weeks do most college students have free this year.

Best answer: Reading week in most Ontario Universities and Colleges is Feb 16-20. Cambrian College is Mar 2-6 (as are a couple of Quebec Universities). Elementary and secondary schools are off Mar 16-19. I haven't heard any of my friends complain it is too busy in Cuba in March.

Best answer: It shouldn't be as busy, but the best way to find out is check the generic availability on the last minute sites. (Selloffvacations, itravel, etc.) But, since Cuba is normally less expensive than Mexico, Florida, etc, then there might be more interest this year among people who are taking a sun vacation.

Avoid Varadero, and you should be fine. Some Europeans with two weeks may take time at the end of March, and overlap Easter, but that would leave you either the first two weeks, and the last week if you're trying to minimize the business. Or travel midweek.

Since U.S. folks can't go to Cuba without jumping through hoops, Florida and Mexico are much more attractive options to us. That alone would seem to indicate that Cuba would be less busy. But I've never been to any of those places in March, so I could be talking out of my butt. :)

Response by poster: Thanks everyone. The school vacation dates are especially useful. I guess we'll book whatever we can find available.
