Question the first: A month ago I saw a video game poster that had a character with a 3D lion head belt buckle. Can anyone name that video game + character? (I thought it was Final Fantasy, but I Imagined Google would have a better lead)

Question the second: I want an identical belt buckle. Where do I obtain this item?

Was it a Thundercats belt buckle?

Is it the lionheart from Final Fantasy VIII?

The only thing that comes to mind is the lion face on one of Cloud Strife's straps from the film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. What did the person wearing it look like?

How about the King of All Cosmos, from the Katamari Damacy series? Like so.

Seconding iconomy. While the main character of FFVIII does have a lionhead-shaped trinket, it's not on his belt. A description of the character will help.

Response by poster: DonSlice, yes it was the Squall Leonhart character you link to, thanks. That is a good lead. I just plugged the character into Google, but unfortunately none of the pictures I've found so far have him wearing the same belt buckle. This is the only one I find of him with a lion belt buckle, but that's a different style buckle.

The picture I saw was in a Tokyo comicbook store, so may very well be a newer design of that character, that hasn't even reached the states yet. The poster had the more video game style artwork like this, and had a bunch of good and bad characters from the game (I presume -- they looked like a mix of good and bad guys anyway).

The buckle was a 3D lion head, like in the picture above, only it was jutting out more, and on top of an oval base.

I would have taken a picture, but my friend made a dismissive comment like the buckle had already become a cliche from the game. Not knowing much about video games I just assumed it had already become an embarrassing nerd fad that I was oblivious to.

Now that I know that's not the truth, I want that damn buckle even more.

Favor request:
Any Mefites that A) see different artwork with the Leonhart character featuring a lion belt, please link the art in this thread, or B) find silver lion head buckles for sale that aren't the simple to Google image stuff like this, please also tell me about it here. In fact if you live in a Big City and find a cool lion buckle, please take a picture for me!

Help me in my quest to look badass... Thanks!

PS - browse, as silly as that artwork is, that's a closer approximation of what the buckle looked like than the Final Fantasy artwork I linked above. It was silver and smaller, though.

Could be The Witcher. Check out the necklace. The wolf's head image is plastered all over the promo materials for the game, too.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any place that is selling that pendant. If that's what you're thinking of, sorry!

It does sound like the Witcher's wolf medalion.

Response by poster: It was definitely some version of Squall Leonhart. The lion buckle wasn't as Hot Topic-y as the wolf pic. Not spiky and evil, but more dense and stream-lined like the Chrysler building gargoyles.

Are you sure it was Squall from FFVIII? Could it have been Tidus from FFX or Vaan from FFXII? They all look similar (girly pretty-boys with impossible hair). None of them wear belt buckles like you describe, but...

Was this the poster you saw with all the characters? It's from FFXII. No lion belt buckles there either, though. I'm thinking it's not one of the male leads from the FF series.

If it was Squall, he would have been carrying a sword that looks like a giant revolver with a blade. All the other male leads would have some form of a giant, impossible-to-wield sword.

Could it have been Zack from Crisis Core? Not a lion either, but he does have sort of a belt thing with a design on it. If not, that rules out all the main characters from Final Fantasy (none of the earlier ones have really been officially illustrated realistically, and IX, XI and X-2 were all sort of side projects without a popular main character).

The symbol you're looking for is called Griever. The second to last boss in FF8. Squall carrier the Griever symbol on him as a necklace, a chain from his gunblade and on the gunblade case. I've never seen it on a beltbuckle though.
Another option might be Clouds costume from FF7:AC. The shoulder pad seems to be more in line of what you described. They make replica's here, but again I've never seen it on a belt.
The gargoyles you described reminded me of House Atreides from Frank Herberts Dune series.

If you saw it about a month ago in a store, it was probably for Dissidia. In which case, it's an actual lion head and not the iconic Griever.

No idea where you'd go about getting an actual buckle.

Response by poster: On reflection, this drawing is probably exactly what I saw in that store a month ago (as linked above by both myself and juv3nal), but this is kind of what the buckle turned into in my head. I used the power of imagination to make it awesome-r. The lion must look like it is lunging from my pelvis to maim opposing junx.

Maybe a local artist will know how to make one for me.
