[FoodFindFilter] Where can I purchase German candy manufactured by Hitschler called "Sowas" in the Seattle area or online?

My friend recently did a care package swap with someone from Germany and in the package she received was some chewy German candy called "Hitschler Sowas." The candy is tubular shaped, reddish-pink, fruit (Strawberry I think) flavored, gummy, and is covered in a sour sugary coating (similar to Sour Patch Kids). I love them. I must have more!

A picture of the candy package is here:

I'm hoping to find a retailer somewhere in the greater Seattle area that might sell this or as a last resort a website where I can order more. I have already checked Bavarian Meats in Pike Place Market and several Cost Plus World Market stores but so far no luck. I can't get any more from my friend's German swapping contact.

Can you help me find this awesome candy? Thanks!

De Laurenti in the PPM has a lot of import snack/candy food, not German primarily but might be worth a look.

Response by poster: Yeah, I walked through there (De Laurenti's) today on my way to Bavarian Meats and nosed around the candy a bit. No luck there either.

I'd call the German deli/candy-store:

Continental Store European Delicatessen
5200 Roosevelt Way N.E.
Seattle, WA 98105

Try: Whole Foods, Metropolitan Market, PCC and Trader Joes.

They're a bit more big box-ish, but I've been surprised by what I've found there.

Also, there's plenty of Germans living in Seattle. There's likely German clubs at UW. They might recommend a method of acquisition.

Two more things to try:
1.) The German consulate. They've got nothing better to do, and they might like to hear something positive and human from a caller (I'm sure the Visa questions get monotonous).
2.) Look beyond Germany. The European national regions don't follow the political boundaries exactly. Check places that sell Swiss, Czech, Polish and Austrian food.

This candy is quite hard to find even in Germany which is somewhat funny since the name translates to something like "stuff as good as this is rare". I don't think I've ever seen it sold outside of Bavaria, but I'd trade you some for some fruit rollups or something.

Hmmm, I couldn't even find a way to order this online in Germany... I know the "Hitschler" brand from my supermarket across the street but I've never seen the specific "Sowas" product.

I tried to find out the Hitschler company's email address for you but their webpage is still under construction. After some more searching, I found that there is the vague possibility of dropping Hitschler an email via this obscure contact form. Maybe they could tell you who their distributors in the U.S. are (if they have any)?

(If you don't speak German I can help you translationwise, just mefimail me)

Call George's Sausage and Delicatessen on First Hill. They stock all sorts of German foods.

You could also try writing the folks at Germandeli.com. They do carry hitschler candy & might be able to hook you up.
