I probably hate to put this in media & "arts"

I'm looking for a movie, the bad part is I haven't seen the entire movie and am pretty sure it wasn't stellar but I've been trying to find it off and on for about 7 years or so. The movie involves a male person who's a private investigator or detective. I think he's the target of a number of murder attempts. There's a woman involved and every time she appears it seems there's less and less of her remaining because of accidents, amputations etc.

I think I saw the movie about 7 years ago while I was in Vermont on business, not that the location matters. I may have only seen the ending but it was so bizarre that it's stuck with me.

Boxing Helena?

Death Becomes Her? It is from 1992 and since you didn't say whether you saw it in a cinema or on tv it's a possibility.

Yeah I agree with Glow Bucket. It is the only movie I can think of where they try to kill someone off and the leading ladies are slowly but surely falling apart. They take some kind of immortally potion and throughout the whole movie Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep are trying to kill each other off. It was a terrible movie, but still somehow better than Hudson Hawk.

it could be Brazil. But she's not recovering from accidents, she's having multiple extreme cosmetic surgeries.

No idea what film it was but its not Death Becomes Her, the man isn't a private investigator and most of the film is about the 2 leading ladies trying to kill each other, not the man (he's a rather minor role), iirc it doesn't take them much effort to kill him once they decide they hate him more than each other.

For some reason, this is ringing some bell. Comedy, I presume? Her hair gets mostly burned off at one point maybe?

It was a terrible movie, but still somehow better than Hudson Hawk.

Blasphemy. HH was comedy gold. And yes, I know I'm probably the only one who thinks so.

Response by poster: I did see it on TV. It wasn't Death Becomes Her. I'm not entirely sure whether it was a comedy, intended not to be a comedy but came across as one etc. I remember now that it was my first night in Vermont and because of winter weather it'd taken me a number of aviation detours to make it. I was kind of drifting in and out with the TV on.

Boxing Helena might be it. If I can see the end of the movie I'll know.

Romeo Is Bleeding is what came to mind but in the movie its the male that is falling apart. Stars Gary Oldman and Lena Olin if that helps.

Johnny Dangerously? Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid?

Do you recall any of the actors in it? That would help a lot.

Terry Gilliam's Brazil has some of those elements.

I was thinking Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid as possible too, but I really don't know why that movie popped into my mind, as I can't exactly recall that happening in DMDWP. Not that I can recall much at all about it...

Response by poster: Part of the problem is that the actors were unknown to me. It wasn't Brazil or Johnny Dangerously. Checking IMDB Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid is out as well. I've played with keywords at IMDB to no avail (I didn't know about them till I read the movie question below this one)

I did figure out via keywords that the detective flick with an occultish Hollywood with Dennis Hopper in it was Witch Hunt, which was another movie I only saw a few minutes of but had been bothering me for years (but at least I knew an actor!)

Response by poster: Just checking in. You can also add me to the list of people who actually enjoyed Hudson Hawk.
