[Image Identification Filter] Can anyone identify this small sketch? I was told it possibly relates to latin-american supernatural history.

A friend asked me if I could help him identify this sketch for him. (It looks like some sort of headwear to me?) I thought the hive-mind might be able to help. Thanks!

It vaguely reminds me of Mayan pictographs/hieroglyphs that I ran across during my historical linguistics class in college. I know nothing about such hieroglyphs, though.

Anyone with more knowledge able to confirm or deny?

It does look awfully familiar, like if it featured in an anthro text when I was an undergrad or something... I don't think it looks Mayan or Inca, more like Aztec or Toltec perhaps in origin. Can't seem to find anything beyond that, though. Did you look at any Voodoo resources?
