Recommend me a Dentist in North or Central Florida!

In search of a great dentist in either North or Central Florida who doesn't charge exorbitant fees.

I'm hoping some mefites in Florida can recommend a dentist they like - I'm not happy with my options in Tallahassee, but I'm willing to go anywhere from Pensacola to Jacksonville even down to Orlando.

Here's the issue - I have a current dentist here (he was the only person that people could highly recommend to me when I moved into town), and he has a very posh practice with prices to match. Unfortunately, I need to have some serious work done and his prices are extraordinarily high for the procedure and area of the country ($3K for a crown and onlay).

I'm not trying to be cheap (I'd go to the UF Clinic if I was), but all my research indicates that a more reasonable price for this work is $2K (at the high end), and it seems stupid to spend an extra grand if I don't need too. I've had quite a bit of dental/ortho work in the past, so I'm very keen on getting a dentist that does top-notch work - and my experience has been that quality work doesn't always equate with having a slick, fancy office.

Traveling a few hours isn't a problem, and I'm not looking for a one-time thing - I'd like to find a new dentist can I can like and afford. Thanks!

It's pretty damned far out of your way, but when I lived in St. Augustine I was a patient of Dr. Bert Tavary's for nearly 15 years and had nothing but excellent experiences with him. I recall his prices being extremely reasonable too.

My dentist in Tallahassee was Dr Tom DeLopez. I always liked him, and my family in town still use him. However, he may be "posh"--I was always covered on my parent's insurance and didn't handle the bills--but the office does have a kind of an upscale feel. He does a lot of cosmetic stuff so he tends to ask if you want whitening or extra services (but he never pushed the matter after hearing I wasn't interested).

Still, he does a good job and the hygienists are great. I had to get a crown there a few years ago and the office was very accommodating; they were able to make the gold crown in less than a week so that I could have everything done while I was in town for a visit. I'm not totally sure but I think the cost for this was around $1,000-1,200. (Porcelain would have cost more, and would have taken longer.)

What's your plan? BCBS, CHP, cash?

I have Principal and went to Dr. Magee (on Timberlane) although he isn't contracted with them. He was nice enough and his hygenist was thorough for a regular checkup and cleaning. Since he's out of my plan (I ended up paying $80 above what Principal would reimburse for out-of-network office visits) I'll be needing a new dentist soon, and watching this thread.
