Change podcasts from showing as albums

How do I recategorize "music" as a podcast on iTunes/iPods?

I have downloaded some lectures from iTunes and they are appearing as "albums" in both my iTunes and on my iPod.

How can I recategorize these as podcasts, so I can find them when on the road... rather than having to remember they're actually saved as music?!

Many thanks in advance

Best answer: I am not in front of iTunes right now but I think you can do that when viewing the track id information.

You need to right-click a track and select Get Info, then go to the Options tab, and then select podcast or audiobook (whatever you want) from the Media Kind drop-down menu.

Not sure about podcasts, but if you classify it as an audiobook, iTunes or your iPod will remember where you stopped listening. Great if it is one long 60 minute track.

Haven't used iTunes in a few versions, but I think you should just be able to change the genre tag to Podcast and all will be well.

See my previous question. It's easiest if you have a Mac and can use an AppleScript from Doug's Scripts.

Is this a new feature? It certainly wasn't possible in the past, due to itunes just being inflexible about it. I has to use the script sjuhawk31 recommended.

I'm sorry, but since when is there a "Podcast" in the media kind dropdown? I can only choose "Music" and "Audiobook." "Podcast" is selected and greyed out for those things I DO have in the podcast container.

@theyexpectresults

No idea; as I said, I've been off of iTunes since version 6.something. I may have gone with a hackier solution. For instance, one could create a smart playlist called "Podcasts" or something of that nature that's populated by all files with the Genre tag set to podcast.

As I said Sjuhawk31, I wasn't in front of iTunes at the time, but I thought podcast was one of the media kinds available. But it is only Music and Audiobook.

This is new in iTunes 8. iTunes does something different behind the scenes with podcasts but I am pretty sure it works like audiobooks, in that if you stop halfway through and listen to something else and then go back it restarts where you left off.

Response by poster: Audiobook is what I selected. It works just as well.
