Flyfishing in SE Florida

Looking for some advice on a long weekend in the Florida Keys or Everglades in January

My husband and I will be spending a weekend in SE Florida at the end of January. We'll have 3 days away from the kid, and want to make the most of it. We both love fly fishing and ideally would love to do as much as possible. I know nothing about the area, and it seems like most fly fishing involves hiring an expensive charter and/or guide. Are their alternatives? Can anyone give us suggestions to places we could fish? We also need some accommodation recommendations -a cottage by the water with a beer type place- not the B&B or high rise condo. Our starting point is Boca Raton, so we would want to stay within 3 or so hours from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you get no answers here, I've always had good luck with asking questions such as yours on TripAdvisor's forums.

Have you looked at the 10,000 Islands/Chokoloskee/Everglades City area? Accommodations include the famous Rod and Gun Club.
