Terry Pratchett likes to take all kinds of things normally found in sevens in fantasy/magic literature and turn them into eights. His wizards may be the eighth son of an eighth son, for instance. And he invented a new colour called "Octarine".

In the first Final Fantasy movie, they were searching for the eight magical/mystical McGuffins. I remember thinking at the time how unusual it was that there were eight, when seven would be a more conventional number for a western story.
