Need a list of all trade magazines published in English. Help!

Longshotfilter: where can I find a list of all the trade (ie, non-consumer) magazines published in English?

Is there a list published somewhere (online or on paper) of all the trade magazines published in English - or in the US/UK? By trade I mean publications like Construction Today, PR Weekly etc. I have googled and yahoo has a list but it isn't complete, unfortunately.

Alternatively (!) is there a list of ALL magazines published - a directory of ISSN numbers or something?

Many thanks!

Yahoo has a comprehensive list of UK titles, split by industry.

Here's the wiki list.

Your library will have the Gale Directory of Publications.

Response by poster: Thank futility! Dave, I did see those lists but they don't seem to be complete - at least some magazines I know about aren't on them.

Your Local Library may also have access to Ulrich's Periodicals Directory, which is an electronic database that's nice for these sorts of questions.

The closest that you're going to get is Gorkana which is a PR tool but even that is not comprehensive. It doesn't list, for instance, Estates Gazette which is an important legal publication.

I think that you're asking for the impossible; there are an unimagnable number of trade papers. That said, the periodicals desk of the British Library will likely have the information which you require. Whether they will simply hand it over on request or even have it in a format in which this would be possible is another question. Good luck!

p.s. It's PR Week in UK and the USA
