After the restoration

A couple of weeks ago I had to do a System Restore on my PC, after which I had to reinstall Microsoft Office (2007). Ever since, every time I I open an office program like word or Excel, the program has to go through a long configuration process.

This is only true for Microsoft Office programs. I'd like to figure out a way to make this stop.

Best answer: I had an annoying issue with Office 2007 running the configuration installer each time I tried to open Word. I am running Windows Vista. Here is a fix I found off the Internet, I hope it helps someone else.

The fix to the problem is very simple as it turns out - simply run the following commands (by pressing the Windows Key+R or typing it into the Start/Run command box. Use the line with Office\11.0 if you have Office 2003 installed and Office\12.0 if you have Office 2007 installed. You can use both if you have both installed :

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Do you still have 2003 or older installed? If so, if you run Word 2003 then run Outlook 2007, you'll get that screen. You should just use one or the other to avoid this.

I had the same problem. Started using Open Office. That solved all my MS Office problems.
