Songs similar to "End of the World Party" by Medeski, Martin, and Wood?

I really like the jazz trio Medeski, Martin, and Wood, especially their song "End of the World Party" (http://www.seeqpod.com/search/?plid=6354e115f8) Do you know any songs or artists with a similar style? I'm getting a little tired of listening to the same songs over and over.

Seconding MMW, they rock something fierce. Herbie Hancock has some good jazz/funk sound (check Chameleon, awesome stuff), but he's also got some really weird stuff too. I posted this to the front page a few weeks ago, they're more jazz/punk but freaking awesome sound. I'm trying to find a way to get their cd, I know it exists but I don't think it's sold commercially. If you want to get mp3's of their stuff use Zamzar.com and it'll convert site sound files to whatever format you want.

MMW are awesome, as are MSMW (MMW + John Scofield on guitar). You mentioned getting sick of the same songs, but have you listened to any live sets? Keep in mind that MMW are an improvisational band first and foremost. I really recommend that you seek out as many live sets as possible-- those tired standards you've been listening to from The Dropper sound completely different after they've been playing them live for years. Even if you're familiar with their albums, you could listen to hours of live sets and not even catch a melody you recognize because they jam like crazy.

The MMW page at the eTree BitTorrent tracker page should get you started, its right here.

If you're interested in finding new music in general (teach a man to fish...)

1. Sign up for an account at last.fm.
2. Download their little tracker, it'll just sit in your system tray and track what you listen to in iTunes or your media player of choice
3. Listen to music like you normally would for a week or two (except maybe listen to more of it, just to give it more data)
4. Check back in a couple weeks and look at your account's Recommended page
5. Listen to samples of bands on that page that sound interesting via last.fm, buy a couple of their most popular songs on iTunes, download entire albums or discographies via bittorrent, whichever you prefer
6. Repeat, forever

Enjoy!

Definitely get Amon Tobin's first album, Bricolage.

Tied & Tickled Trio

You might like Brad Mehldau's album called Largo.

And yeah, this is what last.fm and pandora.com are for. You don't need to go through the whole 6-step plan above -- just click here and start listening to the MMW radio station right away.
