iMac 24 - 2006 version; graphics card has failed, and I would like to replace with a card model from one of the newer iMacs, is this possible from a hardware/driver perspective? What are some of the caveats I may encounter? Thank you.

hmmm . . . apparently you /can/ upgrade the graphics card, since it is an MXM graphics card slot deal.

If you can find another MXM card that is working in a Mac, then it should slot in with no problems. The general difficulty with getting a card working on a Mac is not the drivers per se (OS X ships with a LOT of drivers) but the card's BIOS image, which is always Mac-specific so generic graphics cards will never work without a reflash of the BIOS EPROM to a compatible OS X image.

Spare Parts are available. I've haven't opened an iMac since the iLamp, so I don't know how much of a PITA replacing that part would be.

Just a reminder before you go to town on opening it up: if it's only 2 years old you could still be under warranty if you bought 3 years of AppleCare. You might want to double-check your receipts just in case.
