Song quest

I found a song back in the days of Napster which has no accurate metadata. But, I like it and need help figuring out who it is. There's some folks out there via Google who say its the Grateful Dead. I'm not so sure. Here are the lyrics:

Gazing out my window
I can see the snow below
And it flows in to my soul
From the eggshell of my mind

I found a way
I could never keep my boat
through these troubled waters
to the shores of Shangri-La

eggshells, eggshells
help me seperate my yellows from my whites

standing in the phone booth
just waiting for your call
but I dont know who it is or where they are

biding my time in the heart of the purple city
these bright lights shining in my eyes

eggshells, eggshells
help me seperate my yellows from my whites

According to this page; "The line 'I found a way I could navigate my boat through these troubled waters to the shores of Shangri-la' was used in the song 'Eggshells' by Plastic by Nature".

Try a program called MusicBrainz. It can identity songs. Usually.

From the thousands of hours of listening to the Grateful Dead and the over 100 shows, this is not a GD original song. However, the Dead were probably one of the top cover bands ever so you never know if they played this song once or twice. I doubt it though.

Seconding MusicBrainz. If you don't want to install it, then you can send me the song and I'll use my copy to figure it out for you.

Last track in the media player on this page, but that can't be the Dead.

Thirding MusicBrainz - especially their Picard tool (on PC. Not as good on Mac, sadly: not PUID support). I correctly retagged my whole MP3 collection a few years ago.

The sound quality of this MP3 (found through JaredSeth's link) seems quite bad, which might prevent finding. In fact, it doesn't even sound like a profesionnal band...

Thankfully not the Dead.

Best answer: A professional band is any band who makes money off of music. You could be the best guitar player ever, and not professional.

The line "I found a way I could navigate my boat through these troubled waters to the shores of Shangri-la" was used in the song "Eggshells" by Plastic by Nature.
